On Friday, 23rd September 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held bilateral talks, on the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly in New York.
The historic meeting was the first-ever bilateral meeting between leaders of both countries. The two leaders discussed the strong historic ties that have existed between Nigeria and Greece and a commitment to reinforce bilateral cooperation with a focus on gas and renewable energy, security, the blue economy and other areas of mutual benefit.
President Buhari’s delegation included Nigerian Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in NY, Amb. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Amb. Babagana Kingibe and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece, Opunimi Akinkugbe.
